Ariana Grande is one of the most popular singers in the world. She has won countless awards and has a dedicated fan base (called erionators). Sometimes music fans argue about who has the best voice or the most talent. Grande is sometimes the subject of such debate. However, if you listen Sound As Coach sings during a 2014 show for Michelle and Barack Obama, you’ll no doubt that the songwriter is genius. Take a look at his adorable performance here.
Kelly Clarkson mesmerized by Ariana Grande and Mac Miller’s performances
One of Grande’s earliest songs was Way, featuring the late rapper Mac Miller. His talent was evident to many, including American Idol Winner Kelly Clarkson. In 2013, after Grande performed the song The Ellen DeGeneres ShowClarkson was so impressed that he tweeted about Grande asking who she was.
“Well, who is this girl and where did she come from?” tweeted Clarkson. “Someone just sent this to me and wow he’s a killer and only 19!”
Grande went on to create many more hit songs. Earlier this year, they won a Grammy in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for their collaboration with Lady Gaga on the song “Rain on Me.”
Ariana Grande Presents for Barack Obama and Michelle Obama at the White House
If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, this video of Grande singing to Michelle and Barack Obama will brighten your day and make your whole year. Grande performed at the White House in 2014 for an event titled On display at the White House: Women of the Spirit. Some other singers in attendance were the late Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Melissa Etheridge, Jill Scott and Janelle Monáe.
Grande began with a light greeting for Obama, “Mr. President, Mrs. Obama, what’s up? How are you?” His unexpected debut made the audience laugh a lot.
Grande chose to sing “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. Not many people can sing the Whitney Houston song well enough, but the crowd was clearly pleased with Grande’s performance. Mr and Mrs Obama was very impressed. Grande also received a standing ovation in the end. If you haven’t already, stop and see what we’d argue is one of his best performances.
‘I Have Nothing’ by Whitney Houston
The song sung by Grande was a huge hit in the 90s. “I Have Nothing,” was written by David Foster (husband of husband) American Idol alum Katherine McPhee) and Linda Thompson. This tune was written for the soundtrack of the 1992 film bodyguard, starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
“I Have Nothing” was the third single released from The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album. Prior to this single, Houston had had tremendous success with her cover of “I’m Every Woman” and Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”.
“I Have Nothing” peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also spent time on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart (also peaking at number 4 and the top spot on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.)
