Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler enjoyed an adventurous childhood. He traveled with his family and got the opportunity to learn about life and music. However, the musician says that there came a time when his “childhood was over.” Here’s what Tyler said about that time in his life.
Steven Tyler and ‘Snoop Dogg Lodge’
in your book Does the noise in my head bother you? Tyler says that his father played the piano at an establishment called Sue Nippy Lodge, located in Sunpee, New Hampshire. When he was a child, Tyler used to spend his summers in Sunapee with his family. It is implied that several people smoked marijuana at Sue Knippy, as Tyler joked that the lodge should have been called Snoop Dogg Lodge.
Steven Tyler describes the night his ‘childhood ended’
Tyler says he had great, clean fun as a kid. However, in his book he remembers the night when his “childhood ended.” According to him, when he was 13, he quickly transitioned from innocence to the “evil world of dope”.
Tyler says that at times he will see Sue Knippy Lodge employees rolling marijuana. He also remembers the time he went to the barn to listen to a band. He says that someone was swirling ganja in the bathroom. Then he went to Tyler and asked him if he wanted to try something. Tyler declined at first, mostly because the movie drive to madness Put a lot of fear in him. The 1936 film claimed that marijuana smoking could cause mental illness. However, Tyler later accepted the offer.
Tyler says his “childhood ended” that night. He says that that moment eventually led him to do other things that were illegal. According to him, he is not sure what exactly happened, but he began to do “everything” that was “illegal, immoral, or fattening”.
Steven Tyler started growing marijuana
Tyler soon began growing marijuana and hid it from his family. He didn’t want anyone to find his whereabouts, so he planted marijuana near power lines far from his home. He chose this place because it was far away, but not far enough that he could go and water his hemp plants. Tyler decided to take a fish and cut it into small pieces. Then he placed the fish inside a stone wall so that it would ferment due to the heat of the sun.
It turned out to be a bad idea. Tyler says that before he knew it, flies were buzzing around his marijuana plant. He says the fish turned out to be “rotten” and “stinky”. However, this did not stop him from continuing with his project. He says that he buried the seeds of the pot in the ground. He remained devoted to his potted plant and watered it daily. After two months, Tyler says he had the “weird bonsai of a pot plant.”
Tyler knew there was a problem with his plant when it stopped growing. He noticed that the stems were tough. They later found that the plant was not growing because pesticides had been sprayed beneath the power lines. This slowed down the growth of the plant. Despite the plant’s stunted growth (it had only seven leaves), Tyler says he pulled the leaves and smoked them. “I still loved being up high and living in the woods,” Tyler says.
