Craig will take his final bow as 007 in ‘No Time to Die’
It seems likely that the torch will be passed on to a new 007 in “No Time to Die”, this is not true as the producers of the franchise revealed that the search for a new actor to play James Bond will not begin until 2022. .
After several delays resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing as the world-renowned detective character will finally begin on October 8. Many speculated that the film would see the version of Craig’s character in a new take on the 007 moniker. Character, possibly a woman, before the credits roll.
However, speaking on BBC Radio 4’s “Today”, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli revealed that “No Time to Die” will focus less on the future and more on bidding farewell to the man who has brought Bond to life since 2006.
“We’re not thinking about it at all,” she said (via) Hollywood Reporter) “We wish Danielle had time to celebrate. Next year we start thinking about the future.”
It was almost 15 years before Craig took on the James Bond role from Pierce Brosnan with his first role as the character in “Casino Royale”. He played Bond in “Quantum of Solace,” “Skyfall,” “Spectre” and would eventually take his bow in “No Time to Die.” If his run is any example, the determination of a new James Bond is significant both artistically and financially. In the last four films, Craig’s version of the character has grossed an estimated $840 million in the US alone, according to box office mojo. Worldwide, the gross income of films is in the billions.
Broccoli notes that the decision is personal to the actor as well. She told how Craig was reluctant to be the new James Bond when he was initially told for fear it would change his life too much.
“We could see that he was reluctant to do this, because he knew it would change his life, which it clearly has. It changed his life, but it hasn’t changed him,” she said. “What he’s enabled us to do with the franchise is really explore Bond’s emotional life and go into the complexity and conflicts that take place within the individual and the Bond character.”
Now, however, Craig told the hosts “Graham Norton ShowEarlier this week he had trouble saying goodbye to the franchise. He even joked that he would be “incredibly bitter” when a new Bond was chosen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the current front runners for the new James Bond include Tom Hardy, Reggae-Jean Page, James Norton, Luke Evans, Idris Elba and Henry Cavill. Rumors have also circulated that “No Time to Die” will end with actress Lashana Lynch being dubbed in the next 007. He has been confirmed to play an MI6 agent named Nomi, who will be working alongside Bond in the latest film and where he has played a role about where the next Bond adventure will take him.
However, judging by Broccoli’s comments, this seems unlikely.
