According to one analyst, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline has sat above $3 for the majority of 2021.

GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan, tweeted that prices are above $3 since May 11, the equivalent of 125 days.

De Haan told Granthshala Business, “21 was not expected to be so painful for so long, but Americans rallied and went out and blew most of the demand expectations out the window.”

De Haan anticipates that prices may begin to fall from current levels in the fall and winter, but “with the impact of hurricane season from Ida and likely Nicolas, that respite may have to wait a few more weeks. ”

Since 2012, California has claimed the top spot for the highest prices at the pump, he said. However, according to de Haan, the relief is expected to be more significant there and along the west coast than in other parts of the country.

Although California has the most expensive gas, at $4.38 per gallon, Hawaii isn’t far behind. According to data from GasBuddy, gas costs more than $4 a gallon in the state.

Nevada, Washington and Utah are among the top five most expensive states to fill in.
